  7. Q: What is Shareware, anyway?
  8.  
  9. A: Shareware is a method of distributing software that gives users
  10.    a chance to try software before buying it. If you try a
  11.    Shareware program and continue using it, you are expected to
  12.    register. Individual programs differ on details -- some request
  13.    registration while others require it, some specify a maximum
  14.    trial period. With registration, you get anything from the
  15.    simple right to continue using the software to an updated
  16.    program with printed manual.

  18.    Copyright laws apply to both Shareware and commercial software,
  19.    and the copyright holder retains all rights, with a few
  20.    specific exceptions as stated below. Shareware authors are
  21.    accomplished programmers, just like commercial authors, and the
  22.    programs are of comparable quality. (In both cases, there are
  23.    good programs and bad ones!) The main difference is in the
  24.    method of distribution. The author specifically grants the
  25.    right to copy and distribute the software, either to all and
  26.    sundry or to a specific group. For example, some authors
  27.    require written permission before a commercial disk vendor may
  28.    copy their Shareware.

  30.    Shareware is a distribution method, not a type of software. You
  31.    should find software that suits your needs and pocketbook,
  32.    whether it's commercial or Shareware. The Shareware system
  33.    makes fitting your needs easier, because you can try before you
  34.    buy. And because the overhead is low, prices are low also.
  35.    Shareware has the ultimate money-back guarantee --  if you
  36.    don't use the product, you don't pay for it.

  40. Q: FM Toolbar does not work. Why?
  41.  
  42. A: Probably, because of incorrect installation. Please try the
  43.    following:
  44.  
  45.    Verify that FMTB.DLL, and CSTB.DLL files have been correctly
  46.    copied into the directory you specified when installing FM
  47.    Toolbar. If not, find out the reason (maybe the disk is
  48.    write-protected?)
  49.  
  50.    Make sure that:
  51.  
  52.  
  53.    --   the section [AddOns] in the WINFILE.INI file contains the
  54.         string FM Toolbar=...,
  55.  
  56.    --   the first character of the string is not a semicolon ( ; )
  57.  
  58.    --   the string after the = sign points to the actual location
  59.         of the FMTB.DLL file.
  60.  
  61.    If you have some other File Manager extenders installed, make
  62.    sure you have no more than 4 of them active, including FM
  63.    Toolbar. Try to rearrange the order in which they are listed in
  64.    the [AddOns] section of the WINFILE.INI file.

  66.    Make sure you have restarted the File Manager after
  67.    installation. The FM Toolbar comes to play only since new
  68.    session of the File Manager!

  70.    If everything is done, but FM Toolbar is still not working
  71.    (there is no Toolbar item in the File Manager's menu bar),
  72.    please,  find a minute to drop us a line with the description
  73.    of the problem, including information on DOS and Windows
  74.    versions running on your computer. We will try to find the
  75.    reason.

  79. Q: Can I use FM Toolbar and other File Manager extenders
  80.    simultaneously?
  81.  
  82. A: Sure. There should be no conflicts between FM Toolbar and other
  83.    extenders. If there are some, try to rearrange the strings in
  84.    the [AddOns] section of the WINFILE.INI file. And remember,
  85.    there should be no more than 4 extenders active at the same
  86.    time. If you have them more than that  number, comment out some
  87.    of them (i.e. place a semicolon ( ; ) in front of each line of
  88.    the section [AddOns] corresponding to an extender you don't
  89.    want to be used. Which ones you choose to keep active is up to
  90.    you! )

  94. Q: Will I be able to use FM Toolbar with Windows 4.0 (Chicago)?

  103. Q: How to get updates and upgrades to the FM Toolbar?
  104.  
  105. A: If file FMTB.DLL from your copy of the FM Toolbar is one or two
  106.    months old, then there probably is a newer version of the
  107.    program and you can obtain it directly from us. Please print
  108.    out file ORDRDISK.TXT, fill it in, include payment specified,
  109.    and mail it to us.

  111.    You can also obtain an update from other sources (such as FTP
  112.    sites, your local BBS, or a shareware disk vendor). In this
  113.    case, of course, there in no charge from us, however, you will
  114.    probably have to pay the on-line service or disk vendors fees.
